A new year, a new season, a new jersey manufacturer and a new jersey for the Sligo footballers.

‘Tis the season for new GAA jersey launches and Sligo became the latest to unveil their new strip at a press reception last night in the Radisson Blu Hotel & Spa in Sligo, who will sponsor all senior and junior Sligo football teams for the third season in succession.

The new jersey is manufactured by KUKRI Sports Ireland and will be worn for the first time competitively for the National League Campaign next month, when Pat Flanagan will be aiming to get off to a bright start in his first season in charge.

Sligo also took full advantage of the recent change in GAA sponsorship regulations allowing an additional sponsors name to appear on the jersey for the first time, with IT Sligo appearing on the back of the jersey above the number to mark a new sponsorship agreement with the college.

The new jersey sees the addition of a white hoop as opposed to the all-black number with white trim that Sligo county teams have been wearing in recent years, while, if nothing else, the deep v-neck will ensure that if a scuffle breaks out, opponents won’t have as much to grab hold of than they would if there was still a collar attached.

So, what’s the verdict Sligo fans?
