Just the 39 shots headed the USA stopper’s way tonight.
Tim Howard, deservedly, was awarded the man of the match by Fifa after tonight’s 2-1 win for Belgium over the US in extra-time. It usually takes a very special show for a player on the losing team to get the nod, never mind the goalkeeper, but Howard’s show tonight was truly exceptional.
The clever folks at the New York Times have mapped all the shots in tonight’s game and it really shows just how busy, and brilliant Howard was.

In a tournament with some great goalie shows, Howard’s is still the best we’ve seen in a long, long time.
