Pic: Taking a selfie with the President was the highlight of this punter’s trip to Leopardstown

We’re not sure whether he left with a fat wallet or an empty pocket, but a selfie with El Presidente himself surely made this punter’s trip to Leopardstown on Stephen’s Day.

Selfies have become so commonplace that they’re getting a little irritating at this stage, but in certain cases you can make an exception and taking one with the President of Ireland certainly qualifies for that category.

JOE reader Andrew Buckeridge from Rathfarnam sent us in this photo of himself with Michael D while at the races in Leopardstown on St. Stephen’s Day and while the photo isn’t exactly very flattering to the President as he had his eyes closed at the exact moment it was taken, it’s certainly a framer for Andrew and one that should take pride of place on the mantelpiece at home.

Better yet, Andrew was only home for a few days at Christmas before heading back to Sydney, where he currently lives, in time for the New Year, so he’ll have some story to tell the housemates when he returns to Oz.

A few bets, a few drinks and a selfie with the President; it really is hard to beat a day at the races at Christmas.

Hat-tip to Andrew Buckeridge for sending this one into us
