PIC: The programme for Ireland v Switzerland pays a lovely tribute to the spirit of 1916

Paul Moore

Pick one up.

There are three main reasons to head to the Aviva this Friday to see Ireland begin their Euro 2016 preparations against a very talented Switzerland side.

1) The action on the field should be extremely interesting as Martin O’Neill looks set to give some new players like Stephen Gleeson, Eunan O’Kane, Alan Judge and Matt Doherty a chance to impress. 2) The Aviva will be one of the very few places in Ireland where an alcoholic beverage can be purchased, those 69 bars have the ability to pull 90,000 pints and they’re going to be pretty busy. 3) The programme for the Good Friday game is sure to be a collectors item because it features former Belfast Celtic footballer Oscar Traynor, who was an Irish Volunteer in 1916 and was later interned in Wales, before taking part in the War of Independence.

The FAI have decided to commemorate his memory and mark the 1916 celebrations in a unique way.

Be sure to pick up a copy…along with your pint!
