A bit of friendly rivalry is no harm but this is simply not on…
As hurling rivalries go, there hasn’t been a bigger one in modern times than Tipperary v Kilkenny, with the two sides contesting three epic All-Ireland Finals on the trot between 2009 and 2011 as well as number of other fierce clashes in recent years.
They’ll be going head to head in this year’s decider in Croker on Sunday and already we’ve seen a number of examples of what Richard Keys might call ‘friendly banter’ between fans of both counties in the shape of road signs (see examples here and here) located at various locations along the Tipperary/Kilkenny border.
While that’s all a bit of craic and harmless, there was no need for the graffiti which appeared in Johnstown and on road signs in the last couple of days in what we’re sure was the work of only one or two fans who crossed the line.
Disappointing to see the damage to signage in Johnstown. We’re all for friendly rivalry but this is thuggery. pic.twitter.com/yCW0kM4zsx

Hopefully that’s the last instance we’ll see of the rivalry getting out of hand and everyone can look forward to relish to what should be another cracking encounter. We can’t wait.
