This guy will ruffle a few opposition feathers.
It’s not really a common occurrence that GAA clubs will have an official mascot.
In fact, if anything, it’s probably more likely that some players will be told they’re only about as useful as a mascot to the club.
Enough about JOE’s personal playing experience though.
Hospital/Herbertstown GAA Club from Limerick have now adopted a mysterious cockerel who has made their ground his home.
Speaking to Donal O’Regan of The Limerick Leader, Paudie Reale, PRO of the club, explained that their new feathered friend has been christened ‘Rocky’, after the iconic chicken-chasing scene from Rocky II.

Paudie, himself a former All-Ireland winning u21 Limerick hurler. went on to say, “Rocky appears out of the hedge for every training session and match and puts off many a free taker as he perches himself on the scoreboard. He is our version of the French rooster!”
“He’s not too shy. He likes to investigate sliotars around the field. We tried to find him for the recent parade in the town to celebrate the launch of the Hospital 800 year celebrations but he was nowhere to be found. We thought he could march with the GAA club.”
