This has gotten out of hand altogether.
The controversy over the tumble that Wayne Rooney took against Preston on Monday night rumbled on for quite some time yesterday, but with the Champions League returning last night, you’d think that it would have been forgotten about.
That was until WWE Wrestler Wade ‘Bad News’ Barrett, who spent his early years in Preston, decided to call out Rooney on Twitter over the dive, jokingly suggesting that there’d be no need for simulation when he got a hold of him.
How about that @WayneRooney dive vs @PNEFC? He won't need to dive when I catch up with him.. #BullHammer #BNB

Rooney took up the bait, not entirely seriously suggesting that he’d get Steve ‘Stone Cold’ Austin to come out of retirement to help him out.
@WadeBarrett ill get stone cold Steve Austin out of retirement for you. Haha

That in turn led Barrett to suggest what would be a completely bizarre but thoroughly watchable contest with Rooney and Stone Cold on one side and Barrett and Preston bruiser Kevin Davies on the other.
.@WayneRooney you and @steveaustinBSR Vs me and @Kevin__Davies at Wrestlemania in 6 weeks. Get it booked @VinceMcMahon.

@WayneRooney @WadeBarrett @steveaustinBSR @VinceMcMahon 6 week training camp starts now!! Ha
— Kevin Davies (@Kevin__Davies) February 17, 2015
@Kevin__Davies @WadeBarrett @steveaustinBSR @VinceMcMahon u ready big man

Stone Cold could have been forgiven for not having a clue what was going on, but he eventually waded in when someone accused Wayne Rooney of not embracing his baldness.
He then subsequently helped bring an end to one of the oddest Twitter exchanges we’ve seen for a while.
@WadeBarrett @WayneRooney @steveaustinBSR @Kevin__Davies @VinceMcMahon Austin would be ashamed of Rooney not embracing baldness
— Rob (@Robbanks1979) February 17, 2015
@Robbanks1979 @WadeBarrett @WayneRooney @Kevin__Davies @VinceMcMahon Embrace the baldness. And that's the bottom line…
— Steve Austin (@steveaustinBSR) February 17, 2015
@steveaustinBSR that's the bottom line. Cause stone cold said so

Unfortunately, WWE supremo Vince McMahon has yet to respond to Barrett’s request to ‘get it booked’ but we know if he did, we’d certainly watch it.
Make it happen Vince.
