Diarmuid Connolly blasted home two goals and five points in St Vincent’s convincing All-Ireland final win over Castlebar Mitchels.
Following on from Portumna’s win in the 2014 All-Ireland Club Hurling Championship, St Vincent’s bagged the 2014 All-Ireland Club Football Championship with a 4-12 to 2-11 win over Castlebar Mitchels.
Shane Carthy opened the scoring for the Dublin side after just one minute, but it didn’t take long for Castlebar’s Patrick Durcan to level the scores on one point apiece.
The first of St Vincent’s goals came from Michael Concarr after just nine minutes of play, with Ciaran Dorney netting the second after 26 minutes. At half time the game looked fairly level with both sides taking their chances, but there was only going to be one winner.
Castlebar Mitchels fought hard as they tried to make a comeback but after two goals from Diarmuid Connolly made the game 4-9 to 1-11, it was always going to be an uphill climb. The game finished off 4-12 to 2-11 in favour of St Vincent’s, who are your new All-Ireland SFC winners.
