Over 120,000 people went out in Bogota to meet their World Cup heroes.
Like a teenage boy flicking through a Victoria’s Secret catalogue, we fell in love/lust many times during the World Cup. And while we were smitten by the likes of Costa Rica, USA, Chile and Algeria at various times, the one we fell hardest for was Colombia.
From the record-breaking role played by Faryd Mondragon to the effortless cool of coach Jose Pekerman there was lots to love, even before you got to their on-pitch performances, led by the wonderful James ‘It’s pronounced Hamez’ Rodriguez.
So if we fell arse over tit for them, you can imagine how popular they were in their homeland. Proof of just how much affection there was for their side was evident at the phenomenal turnout for their homecoming yesterday.
Fans gathered in Simon Bolivar Park to greet the team and after an open top bus through the streets they arrived in the city centre location.
As you can see, the place was pretty packed, with an estimated 120,000 people there to meet the team.
