PICS: The clearest proof yet that wherever you go in the world you’ll find someone in a Mayo jersey

Conor Heneghan

You simply can’t escape them.

The fact that Irish people like to wear their GAA county jerseys abroad is hardly an astonishing revelation, but for some reason, Mayo people appear to do so more often than people from any other county.

Truth be told, even the furthest-flung corners of the world are familiar with the sight of pasty men and women clad in the famous red and green and if you had any doubts about that, check out the pictures sent our way of Seanie Nolan from Castlebar.

Currently travelling in New Zealand, Seanie wandered into the Tamaki Maori Village in Rotorua and into what looks like the middle of the locals doing some sort of war dance.

Not since Philly McMahon and Johnny Cooper in the All-Ireland Final has there been more hostile faces greeting the sight of a Mayo jersey, but Seanie took it all in his stride.

What’s more, he reckons, that as a result, the famous curse of Mayo football has been lifted and Sam will go west in 2017.

One step at a time, Seanie, one step at a time.

Cheers to Seanie Nolan and Maria Mc for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail [email protected].
