Pics: The inside of the Amazonia Arena in Manaus looks worse than the pitch

If you thought the state of the pitch in Manaus was bad, you should take a look inside the stadium.

If you thought the state of the pitch in Manaus was bad, you should take a look inside the stadium.

The O Globo site has posted pictures of the bowels of the Amazonia Arena, built at a cost of $290m, and things are not pretty.

The stadium has already played host to England and Italy, while tonight the USA and Portugal do battle on the over-fertilised pitch.

Inside the arena, parts of the structure still resemble a building site, with manholes barely covered up by traffic cones, unfinished building works and broken elevators.

In fact, when one of the elevators reached full capacity of 16 people, it failed; four women reportedly fainted while a young boy injured his knee.

You can hardly blame FIFA though, they only had several years to make sure everything was ready.
