His absence on co-commentary duty was noted on Saturday night and now RTE have confirmed the former Irish international has left Brazil.
When George Hamilton did the Holland Costa Rica game solo everyone, well Twitter anyway, wondered where Ray Houghton, George’s partner for the entire World Cup, had gone.
Today RTE confirmed to the Irish Independent why Houghton was not on duty in Salvador.
“Ray Houghton is on his way home due to personal reasons,” an RTE spokeswoman told the paper while the Indo goes on to say they understand the former Irish international had a ‘minor’ health scare.
The paper also says it is expected that Houghton will be back in this part of the world today.
We wish Ray all the best and hope he is back to his old self soon.
As for George, it is said that he will have a replacement alongside him for the remaining games in Brazil.
