All eyes will now turn to assistant Kieran McGeeney to see if he steps up to run the Orchard.

After two years in the gig, reports today in the Irish Daily Star say that Paul Grimley has resigned as Armagh manager.

Grimley led the team to an All-Ireland quarter final this season, where they were narrowly defeated by Donegal.

However, the Star say that he met with county board officials on Monday night and told them he would not be staying in the post.

Grimley has been involved with Armagh for three years, first as an assistant to Paddy O’Rourke before being the top man for the last two years.

Now thoughts will turn to a successor for what looks like a team on the rise. Kieran McGeeney, assistant to Grimley this season, is the obvious choice, and he has a wealth of inter-county experience after seven years at the helm of Kildare.
