Robin van Persie suffers horrific eye-injury while playing for Fenerbahce

Carl Kinsella

This is truly heart-breaking.

Robin van Persie left the field on a stretcher earlier this afternoon after suffering a gruesome eye injury following a collision with Abdulwahid Sissoko.

The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker opened the scoring during Fenerbahce’s 3-1 win over Akhisar Belediyespor.

But his good day was cut short after the collision saw him hit the ground bleeding from the left eye. He was immediately stretchered off, though after he was seen to he returned to the ground to watch the remainder of the game.

There is no official prognosis yet on how van Persie will recover from the injury, which certainly looked serious.
