The proud Rebel’s eyes have been opened…

Ronan O’Gara has surprised us all this evening by saying his new life abroad has made him realise: “there’s more to life than Cork and I have to get out there and see it.”

The Racing Metro coach was speaking to Off The Ball’s Ger Gilroy when he dropped the bombshell.

The former Munster out-half seems settled in Paris and see his short-term future with the French side as he revealed he’s close to signing a new two-year deal.

O’Gara has admitted the experience is fast tracking his coaching skills: “My position at Racing is probably higher than what I would get here (in Ireland) and I’m probably getting double the learning experience in France.”

ROG spoke to Ger about his first year with the Top 14 side and how he’s settled into his role at the club: “It’s obviously been a whirlwind 12 months, It takes a bit of time for your head to adjust from a player to a coach.

The first two months were almost a case of ‘stand back and observe’ and not having direct responsibility. But then you become part of the team and as one of the coaches told me, I did kick the door down a little bit to get where I am in terms of my role in Racing.”

But what about the Cork comments, the people on Leeside will a bit annoyed tonight.
