Roy Keane was having absolutely none of the England hype train last night

Classic Roy…

England defeated Panama in emphatic fashion on Sunday afternoon in the World Cup group game to secure their spot in the next round, all that remains is to decide who takes the top spot in the group in their final game against Belgium.

Of course, despite the fact that it was only against Panama, who looked incapable of launching any sort of meaningful attack for large periods of the game, hype about England has already grown exponentially… just after Gareth Southgate had subtly lowered everyone’s expectations and all.

ITV did not have the rights to the game, so the broadcasting of it in the UK fell to BBC, so that gave the pundits on ITV a long time to think about it until they broadcast Colombia against Poland that evening.

Of course, Roy Keane wasn’t overly enthused by all the talking about England going on.

Former England internationals Gary Neville and Ian Wright expressed their positivity about England’s chances in the tournament. However, Keane did his best to try to reign in their expectations on ITV on Sunday night.

In classic Roy style…

“I’m kind of bored of the lads all night because, England have already won the tournament already according to these lads down there,” said Keane, pointing in the direction of Neville and Wright.

“Don’t worry about last 16, quarter-final….final. Try and win the next game of football. Don’t try and please everyone. He’s on about giving lads from the squad a game. Try and win the next game of football.”
