Roy Keane and Trent Alexander-Arnold could barely contain themselves after Daniel Sturridge comment

It’s a whole new world.

Sky Sports have been rolling out the whole ‘Greatest Show on Earth’ schtick, with Roy Keane as the grumpy but comic foil. At Stamford Bridge, this afternoon, the former Manchester United captain played up to that role.

Peter Drury replaced Martin Tyler in the commentary gantry, Patrick Davidson filled Geoff Shreeves’ shoes for the post-match interviews and former Chelsea and Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge was a new face in the punditry team.

Keane was Keane, though, and offered up some insights to the new-look Chelsea and Liverpool sides, in between the many, many, many advertisements breaks. He stressed that Liverpool are in better shape than topsy-turvy Chelsea and had Micah Richards in stitches before a ball was kicked when he brought out his tinfoil wrapped ham sandwiches.

When Sky played out the circus-themed ‘Greatest Show’ advert, starring Keane and Idris Elba, both Sturridge and Richards cracked up. “Where were you?” Keane asked Richards before the lads could slag him too much for wearing clown make-up.

Following the game, Keane described Chelsea and Liverpool, who ended up drawing 1-1, as ‘two average sides in the second half’.

When Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold came out for a post-match natter with the Sky Sports crew, he got big embraces from Richards and Sturridge while reverting to a simple handshake with Keane.

There was then a hilarious moment when Sturridge, speaking to Alexander-Arnold, pulled out the line, “Keep it funky with ya boy.”

Keane shot a sly look towards Sky host David Jones and the camera crew, with a wry grin on his lips.

With Graeme Souness moving on as a Sky pundit, Daniel Sturridge may appear with Roy Keane & Co. a bit more often in the coming months.

Hold on tight for more Odd Couple hilarity and awkwardness.
