Those boys, they never go home – and Second Captains’ gallivanting takes them to Cardiff this weekend to broadcast their first live TV show outside of Ireland.
The show goes out live at 10pm, Saturday on RTÉ2 immediately after the New Zealand/France quarter-final (on TV3, of course).
They’ll be looking ahead to what is unquestionably the biggest rugby match of the weekend – Ireland vs. Argentina, you know it girlfrien’.
The show’s line-up carries more heft than Iain Henderson in full flight – Ronan O’Gara, Shane Horgan, Ignacio Fernandez-Lobbe (yes, Juan Martin’s brother), Alan Quinlan, Denis Hickie, Donal Lenihan, Nikki Symmons, as well as members of the Kilkenny hurling and Mayo football team.
No question, this show has all the makings of a particularly spicy version of ‘Up For The Match’ with Eoin, Ken and Murph just edging Gráinne and Des for untamed sex appeal.
Zany Captains’ presenter, Ciarán ‘Murph’ Murphy spoke to JOE from Cardiff where the atmosphere is heating up:
“I just bumped into Shirley Bassey and Tom Jones there in Cardiff city centre and they’re even more excited about the show and the match than us. Tom thinks we’ll beat Argentina but Shirley has concerns about the ball carrying of Argentine second-row Tomas Lavanini. This one’s too close to call! Tune in after France versus New Zealand tomorrow night please everyone!”
They sent us this clip – the Under-8 Irish team recreating Ian Madigan’s pressure penalty against France – to whet the appetite:
Looking forward to tuning in.
