News that will come as a massive disappointment to sports fans in Ireland.

A landmark cross supply TV deal announced by Sky and BT will not be available to Irish customers, it has been confirmed.

On Friday, Sky and BT announced an agreement that will enable customers to access sports and entertainment channels through a single subscription, a service that is expected to be rolled out in 2019.

Under the agreement, Sky will receive wholesale supply of the BT Sport channels and vice versa, enabling viewers to access every single match of the Premier League, the UEFA Champions League and Europa League shown on Sky and BT channels through one contract.

Sky will also make its NOW TV streaming service available on the BT TV set-top-box, offering BT TV customers access to channels such as Sky Atlantic, Sky One, Sky Living, Sky Sports and Sky Cinema.

Spokeswomen for Sky and BT confirmed to the Irish Examiner, however, that the deal would not apply to Sky or BT customers in Ireland, who will continue to have to subscribe separately to both services to access content from each provider.

No elaboration has yet been provided as to why Irish customers have been excluded from the deal.
