So what do we make of the GAA’s Gaelic Football Team of the Season so far?

To be fair to the GAA it actually looks like a pretty decent selection to us, but no doubt not everyone will be of that opinion.

To be fair to the GAA it actually looks like a pretty decent selection to us, but no doubt not everyone will be of that opinion.

Nothing prompts debate in GAA circles like trying to pick a team of the season, whether it be for the All-Stars at the end of a season, or, as the GAA have done today, with the two biggest rounds of all still to be played.

All-Star selections tend to place big emphasis on individual performances in the All-Ireland semi-finals and finals, so there’s little doubt that any team picked at the end of the campaign will be vastly different from what the GAA have come up with following the completion of the quarter-finals at the weekend. It’s certainly an interesting way of stimulating debate nonetheless.

The inclusion of big names like Rory O’Carroll, Lee Keegan, Paul Flynn and Michael Murphy is hardly a surprise, but off the top of our heads, a strong case could have been made for the likes of Cork’s Colm O’Neill or Armagh’s Kevin Dyas, for example. Paul Flynn the only Dublin forward? Who’d be a selector, eh?

You can read more on the GAA’s team and the reason behind the selection of the individual players here, but have a glance at the final XV and feel free to let us know of anyone you think is hard done by not to be involved in the comment box below.
