Steven Gerrard says it was a “pleasure to play alongside” Irish legend Robbie Keane

Paul Moore

Lovely words from one icon to another.

Aside form being teammates at Liverpool and LA Galaxy, Steven Gerrard and Robbie Keane have struck up a close friendship that goes beyond their careers on the pitch. It’s clear that there’s a great deal of respect, admiration and trust between the pair, and this is evident in Gerrard’s glowing tribute to the legendary Irish striker.

Both greats will be leaving LA for pastures new this summer – Gerrard has been heavily linked with a move into management with MK Dons while Keane is looking for “one last major challenge in club football” – and the former Liverpool captain has paid a glowing tribute to Ireland’s record scorer via his Instagram account.

“The best the MLS has seen . Incredible 5 years at LA Galaxy. I wish you and your lovely family all the best in your new adventure . It’s been a pleasure to play alongside you for the last few years but more importantly you have had my back and became a great friend . All the best mate”,  he said.

The best the MLS has seen. Hard to argue.

There’s only one Robbie Keane.
