Plus a £50,000 fine.

You could say that he had it coming.

The Wigan Athletic chairman has also been fined £50,000, warned as to his future conduct and ordered to undertake a mandatory education programme.

Whelan was deemed to have made offensive racial comments about Jewish and Chinese people in an interview with The Guardian earlier this year and following an investigation by the FA, he has been charged for “abusive and/or insulting and/or constitute improper conduct and/or bring the game into disrepute”.

The 77-year old conducted an interview with The Guardian in November where he claimed Jewish people “chase money” and insisted “Chink” was not an offensive term.

Whelan will not be able to attend any games or even report to Wigan’s stadium in one of the most severe FA punishments in recent history.
