Comments from John Delaney regarding FIFA corruption were not allowed to see the light of day.

The FAI have revealed that Delaney had signed off on the programme, with his comments about the recent FIFA scandal included, but the organisation’s communications team decided to destroy the Ireland v Scotland match programmes at the 11th hour and replace them.

A print run of 18,000 had to be shredded and replaced at a cost of €10,000, according to the Irish Independent.

A statement read: “John Delaney was entirely unaware of this change to the programme. He had already signed off on it and it was approved for printing.

“The decision to delete his comments where they related to FIFA was an editorial one that was taken by the communications team.”

A banner reading ‘Delaney Out’ is expected to be flown over the Aviva Stadium during this evening’s crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Scotland.
