The GAA-mmys: JOE’s Weekly Championship Awards (Week 12)

A very one-sided weekend of GAA action

Alan Loughnane

Forget the All-Stars, these are the awards that GAA players really want to win.

The Maurice Fitz award for the score with the most outrageous curl of the week

Simply a wonderful score from arguably the best footballer in the country at the minute.

Sheer class…

The ‘business at the back and sides, party up front’ championship haircut of the week award

While of course there was some lovely haircuts on show in Croke Park this weekend, we’re giving this week’s award to two fans. The GAA shtyle statement of the week

While the trio on the Sunday Game were all garbed well as if it was their first communion, we decided to go a little further afield with this weeks choice. This Galway supporter rocking the cowboy look in Croker was the best shtyle statement of the weekend for us… GAA Football All Ireland Senior Championship Qualifiers Round 4B, Croke Park, Dublin 1/8/2015 Donegal vs Galway A Galway supporter looks on during the final stages of the match Mandatory Credit ©INPHO/Cathal Noonan

The ‘did he get that from the soccer?’ showboat of the week

Michael Murphy produced a glorious assist on Saturday for Donegal when he put through Ryan McHugh on goal. A touch of a ballerina from the big full-forward…

Sign that maybe the GAA isn’t getting soft at all award

Some people thought that Stephen Clunxton may have been pushed into the net for Fermanagh’s first goal, but the referee allowed it.

A bit of argy bargy and physicality never did any harm to anyone.

Only in the GAA moment of the week

Shane Curran’s bizarre rant on the Sunday Game had most of the country scratching their heads in confusion, including us.

JOE’s Guaranteed Irish Sports’ Star of the Week Award, a tribute to the tradition of incredibly long names for award titles in the GAA

Rachel Wyse stole the show this weekend along with our hearts when she made these Galway lads’ day with this picture.

She’s our Guaranteed Irish Sports’ Star of the Week…
