The GAA’s Central Competitions Control Committee have decided that no investigation will take place into an alleged biting incident during the Leinster Final on Sunday.

Following the defeat to Dublin at Croke Park, Meath manager Mick O’Dowd revealed that one of his players – Mickey Burke, as it subsequently emerged – had allegedly had his finger bitten by a Dublin player in the latter stages of the contest.

Burke received treatment in hospital afterwards, receiving mandatory injections as is protocol in such cases, while footage and photographic evidence that emerged later did appear to show Burke’s finger making contact with the mouth of Dublin forward Eoghan O’Gara during a scuffle that broke out in front of the Meath goal.

According to the Irish Times, referee Padraig Hughes did reference the incident in his match report but it was ultimately up to the CCCC to determine whether an investigation was warranted and they have decided not to pursue the matter further, meaning no player will face sanction over an incident that had somewhat soured what was an otherwise sporting contest and a great day for the reigning All-Ireland Champions.
