The Mayo News have a big update on the missing GAA teeth in Westport

Incisor reporting here from Ed McGreal.

You may remember (how could you forget) the news we brought you on Monday of the plight of an unnamed GAA player who had lost his teeth in Westport. With the new-fangled laws on gumshields in place, the poor man didn’t want to have to shell out for a second moulded shield, so he was really hoping for his falsies back.

Today Ed McGreal, author of the original tale in The Mayo News, provided an update.

In it, Ed tells us that sadly, the teeth have yet to be located. However, it ain’t all bad news. The man who owned the teeth is named as ‘Kilmeena football legend Joe Ryan’. Joe (great name that) has become even more of a local celebrity following the story and a replacement set of gnashers have already been provided for him.

In addition to that, Joe’s local, Toby’s Bar in Westport, have organised a collection so that some new teeth can also be bought for Joe.

Ed even spoke to the man himself, eliciting this quote: “It’s mad how it has taken off. I didn’t think so many people would be concerned for my teeth!”

We are Joe, and we hope to follow your return to the game after retirement for Kilmeena over the summer.
