They were both in it to win…

It’s not every day that you get to tap into the minds of people like Tim Sherwood and David O’Leary. Having both managed teams at the highest level, their understanding of the game is second to none.

Sherwood took over as Tottenham’s head coach during the 2013/14 season, and guided Spurs to their best ever league win record. Following that, the former midfielder went on to manage Aston Villa.

No one has managed to topple David O’Leary’s record of 722 appearances for Arsenal as a player. After also earning his place in the hearts of Republic of Ireland fans, he went on to manage both Leeds United and Aston Villa in the Premier League.

David O’Leary’s Railway Union vs Tim Sherwood’s Trim Celtic

When we teamed up with Carling, official beer of the Premier League, to organise a challenge match between two Irish sides, Sherwood and O’Leary were exactly what we were looking for. Not only are both of their CVs ridiculously impressive, but they both also seemed more than willing to get involved in the game.

This clash between Railway Union and Trim Celtic might’ve sounded like a friendly on paper, it was anything but. From Tim’s pre-game pep talk to David calling out the opposition’s questionable tactics, everyone was in it to win.

The match ended up being a tight affair, with both sides finding the back of the net. Only one was ever going to come out on top, as you’ll find out from the video below…
