The Premier set up a clash against Clare with a three point victory, winning 3-25 to 4-19 in an excellent encounter.
John ‘Bubbles’ O’Dwyer grabbed 1-07 in a match that contained 51 scores, with Seamus Callanan’s eight points taking his league tally to 5-40.
Tipp were made to work in a sensational first half and they actually trailed at the break, the Rebels going in 3-11 to 3-09 up on last year’s runners-up.
The sides went level twice in the second half before Tipp asserted their dominance, although a late fightback from Cork almost ensured a draw.
Meanwhile, All-Ireland champions Clare ran out winners against Laois, Galway triumphed over Limerick at the Gaelic Grounds and Kilkenny had a comprehensive 4-22 to 2-16 victory over Wexford.
