Transfer Talk: Arsenal sign Ospina, Inter set to offer Guarin to Man United, Hammers want Eto’o

An emotional David Ospina breaks down as he leaves Nice for Arsenal.

Arsene Wenger has got his chequebook out to sign a new goalkeeper.

David Ospina has joined Arsenal from Nice on a long-term contract.

The 25-year-old, Colombia’s goalkeeper at the World Cup, is expected to displace Wojciech Szczesny as the Gunners’ top goalkeeper, a move that will please those journalists who regularly have to copy and paste the name of the Polish stopper.

Ospina broke down when he said his goodbyes to the French club.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger said: “David is an excellent goalkeeper. He will add strength to our squad and we are very pleased that he will be joining us.

“He has good experience and a proven record of performing.”

The fee for Ospina is undisclosed, by the way.

Liverpool won’t be signing Benzema

Nothing Earth-shattering here, as the Reds long since admitted defeat in their bid to bring the Real Madrid striker to Anfield as Luis Suarez’s replacement.

Benzema reportedly feels that Liverpool are not a big enough club for him. Pfft.

In better news for Liverpool fans, though, the signings of Loic Remy, Divock Origi and Dejan Lovren should be confirmed by Monday afternoon.

Inter offer Guarin to United in part exchange for Chicharito

Swap moves between top clubs don’t tend to happen that much but this could be interesting.

Manchester United are in the market for a central midfielder to come in alongside Ander Herrera and Javier Hernandez has long since been surplus to requirements, so the talk is of a swap deal involving the Mexican and Fredy Guarin.

Mutually beneficial, but unlikely.

Could Samuel Eto’o stay in the Premier League?

Moving countries is a hassle, something Samuel Eto’o probably realises as he tries to choose between West Ham and QPR after leaving Chelsea.

The Hammers need striking reinforcements after Andy Carroll’s latest injury mishap, and the 33-year-old would be a fine stopgap for Sam Allardyce before the manager’s inevitable departure in acrimonious circumstances.
