Tributes paid to football legend Pelé after he passes away aged 82

Thousands of footballing stars around the world have paid tribute to footballing legend Pele following the news that he had died on Thursday.

Pele died at the age of 82 following a long battle with cancer and leaves with his legacy intact as one of the greatest footballers of all time.

Best known for winning three World Cups - the first of those at the age of 17 - Pele is also Brazil's joint-record goalscorer with 77 goals in 92 games.

His mark on football will never be forgotten and thousands from around the footballing world paid tribute to the Brazilian legend.

A tweet from the Premier League said: "We are deeply saddened to hear of the passing of Pele, an extraordinarily gifted footballer who transcended our sport and inspired millions throughout his remarkable career. Our thoughts and sincere condolences go to Pele’s family and friends."

Alan Shearer said: "RIP legend. You made the game beautiful. You were an absolute superstar."
