He played like a champion today.
Rory McIlory took a three shot lead into the final day of the Irish Open and that was enough of a buffer as he emerged victorious today.
The Down native shook off close attentions from Bradley Dredge and Russell Knox to clinch the 2016 Irish Open at The K Club.
It wasn’t all straightforward as McIlroy’s lead was reduced to one shot during the final round but he recovered to seal the victory with an eagle on the last to take him to -12.
People were understandably impressed with Rory’s performance over the course of the tournament as well as the bottle he showed during his final round.
His approach shot at the final hole also received widespread praise as the world reacted to his win.
