He’s having hard job of it, mind.
The January transfer window has been somewhat uneventful to date, but one of the most interesting rumours doing the rounds is a potential move to Liverpool for Shane Long.
With Daniel Sturridge a near-permanent fixture on the injury list and Christian Benteke flattering to deceive thus far, the Reds could badly do with a striker, as was painfully evident in their 1-0 loss to Manchester United yesterday.
Tipperary native Long is well-liked by Irish fans and has plenty of attributes, but the jury appears to remain out on his merits, particularly in the finishing department.
Former Liverpool player Didi Hamann, now a respected pundit, is a fan of Long’s and spent a bit of time this afternoon defending his potential purchase to Liverpool fans who don’t think he’s what the club needs.
@DietmarHamann do you think the shane long bid is a good idea?

I like him. Think he would be a good signing. Team lacks bite up front since Suarez left. https://t.co/rNNaciO7gH

@DietmarHamann @wilbo1985 Are you serious. He does not score goals. He doesn't even start with @FAIreland and we are dire #deludeddidi

Goal vs Germany wasn't too shabby. Even if he doesn't score he always contributes, can't be said for too many at LFC https://t.co/kp64o3YJlj

@DietmarHamann Liverpool need class & goals. Not another workhorse/runner, which is what Long is. We've too many workhorses & no class. #LFC

They got enough so called class players who flatter to deceive. Got to learn to grind out results. Long perfect fit https://t.co/eFxQ0xzWEo

What do you think Liverpool fans, would you like to see Long at Anfield?
