TWEETS: People are using Iceland’s struggles as an excuse to have a pop at England
Alas, the best story of Euro 2016 has come to an end.
It was an amazing achievement to get as far as they did, but Iceland's Euros journey came to a shuddering halt at the Stade de France on Sunday night, where they were beaten 5-2 by a rampant France side.
In light of Sunday evening’s events, their 2-1 victory over England in the last 16 reflects even worse on Wayne Rooney and company that it did last Monday night.
By that logic, considering Ireland only lost to the hosts by a goal and were a man down for half an hour or so, it's making us look a lot better all of a sudden.
On Sunday though, people, including Gary Lineker, seemed keen to heap further misery on England, putting the cap on what has been a miserable week.
Can't see why we were so critical of England. Look how difficult France are finding it playing against Iceland. 🙄

England, already humiliated by Iceland, are now being humiliated by proxy by France.

Don't worry Iceland. England would be at least 8-0 down by now

And don't forget - Iceland were the better side against England and thoroughly deserved to win. France 4 Iceland 0 at half-time.

England may have been lucky that Iceland saved them from something like this. #FRAISL France v Germany promises to be mighty.

Were Iceland really that good or England just total shit? Trust the *bloody French* to provide the answer. #Brexit
