The Reds crashed out in a penalty shootout against Besiktas.

With the tie locked at 1-1 after extra-time at the Ataturk Stadium - scene of arguably Liverpool greatest European triumph ten years ago - Dejan Lovren was not the man Liverpool fans expected to see taking their final penalty. Rickie Lambert, Adam Lallana, Emre Can and Joe Allen had all successfully scored their spot-kicks but, with Besiktas failing to make a mistake and leading 5-4 - the hapless Croatian stepped up and skied his effort. While certain Twitter users applauded Lovren for stepping up, many were unforgiving. https://twitter.com/paul_tomkins/status/571048496989638656 https://twitter.com/indykaila/status/571049306842664961 https://twitter.com/MickFoley76/status/571049068392271872 https://twitter.com/RichieMcCormack/status/571048198514589696 https://twitter.com/Vine_Football/status/571053548458418178 https://twitter.com/oharaa/status/571051290404499456
