The remarks were made after the club’s victory against Corinthians on Saturday.

UCD Men’s Hockey Club has issued an apology for a series of explicit and derogatory comments, which were published on the team’s official Instagram page over the weekend.

The remarks were directed towards a member of the Corinthians Hockey team and his wife, after UCD defeated the Rathfarnham club 3-2 on Saturday 10 March.

In a statement, the UCD Mens Hockey Club said that they “would like to unreservedly apologise” for the offensive posts.

“The references made on the official Instagram page were completely unacceptable, and do not represent the character of the club. Those directly affected by derogatory comments made have been personally contacted and apologized [sic] to.

“The public comments were not made with insidious intentions, but we acknowledge and accept that they were absolutely out of order. Internal disciplinary action is being taken.”

According to the student newspaper The University Observer, the main Instagram post featured a picture of the Corinthians player and a UCD plater, alongside the caption: “Here… enjoy the loss, you’re a pussy and you’ve let your rig go.”

Soon afterwards, another comment from UCD player, Andrew Meates appeared saying: “But nowhere near as bad as your wife’s rig.”

The post has since been removed from the page.

Later, the Observer reported that posted several polls, including one asking ‘Do we give a f*!k?’, which is believed to be in reference to the comments posted earlier.
