It's nothing to do with Conor McGregor.

Hozier provides the soundtrack, Jon Jones gives us the storyline.

Anyone who tuned into UFC 213 may have heard Hozier’s haunting voice over the jaw-dropping promo for UFC 214’s main event.

The card is headlined by the UFC’s biggest fight of 2017 so far, the highly-anticipated rematch between light-heavyweight champion Daniel Cormier and the man who never lost the belt inside the Octagon, Jon Jones.

Aside from Jones’ disqualification loss to Matt Hamill because of the archaic 12-6 elbows rule, the two pound-for-pound greats have only one loss between them. That came the first time they threw down at UFC 182 where Jones scored an emphatic unanimous decision victory over DC.

A few factors have fans salivating over this match-up. Firstly, their outstanding records mean that the winner of the rematch could make a valid argument claiming they are the greatest fighter to ever grace an Octagon.

There’s also the fact that the two fierce rivals harbour genuine animosity towards one another and, of course, the laundry list of controversies surrounding Jones’ UFC tenure that saw him stripped of two UFC titles.

The failings of Jones are impossible to ignore, and it’s highly commendable that the promotion decided to address them in their new promo for the fight, which is being praised for its raw honesty.

Wicklow native Hozier’s ‘Arsonist’s Lullabye’ provides the perfect soundtrack to clips of Jones’ immaculate fall from the zenith of the sport to being one of the most controversial figures in its history. Check it out in its entirety below.
