UFC Exec Gary Cook confirmed in Cologne yesterday that Ireland would be getting a UFC event next year.
With Conor McGregor already a star, and the likes of Cathal Pendred working on it, it isn’t much of a surprise to hear that the UFC are plotting to host a show here at some stage in 2014.
Speaking at the launch of EA Sports’ new UFC game at Gamescom, Cook confirmed that a number of European countries will get events in 2014.
Germany, England, Sweden and, most importantly, Ireland were mentioned, so we can expect an event, surely with an Irish flavoured bill, to pitch up here in the next year.
It is now over four years since UFC 93 was held in Dublin’s O2, and over six since Belfast hosted UFC 72, so we’re overdue to say the least.
The rumour mill suggests that the event will take place in the third quarter of next year, with the venue yet t be decided.
