Michael Chiesa is suing Conor McGregor.

The American MMA fighter received a serious injury to his eye when McGregor trashed Khabib Nurmagomedov’s bus in the parking lot of Brooklyn’s Barclays Centre earlier on this year. Chiesa’s decision to sue for physical and psychological damages became public in September 2018, but it is not clear how much he intends to sue McGregor for.

Speaking on the MMA Hour, Chiesa has revealed that his decision to sue McGregor has caused a considerable amount of grievance for his family.

“I’m gonna tread lightly with this, obviously I can’t say a whole lot. But it just has not been good,” Chiesa said. “Even my girlfriend and my mom get messages and comments. They’re not a part of this and it’s kind of a shame when — my mom’s a sensitive lady and I do my best to protect her and stuff. And when she tells me about some of the mean things that are getting sent her way it’s really, it’s a shame.”

“Anybody can say whatever they want to me. This is about me; this isn’t about my family. And, you know, today hasn’t been great.”

Conor McGregor avoided jail-time for the bus attack after striking a deal with prosecutors, but was ordered to do community service.

Chiesa will make his welterweight debut at UFC 232 on 29 December against former interim champion Carlos Condit.
