ZZ really was tops…

Heading for eight years since he hung up his boots after THAT World Cup final, Zinedine Zidane remains an icon. These days the phenomenal goal scoring exploits of Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi garner all the headlines but back in the late 1990s/early 2000s it was the superb balance, vision and all round brilliance of Zidane that earned him three World Footballer of the Year crowns in that era.

The French man retired just six months after YouTube officially launched so during his pomp we didn’t have an instant online archive of his greatness but a YouTuber known as HeilRJ has lovingly compiled some of his best work into one video.

Posted on Reddit last night, the video focuses on Zidane ‘making defenders look stupid’ and he was very, very good at that, be it in the shirt of Real Madrid, Juve or France. His incredible ball control, spacial awareness, and strength shine through here and it will probably be the most enjoyable two-and-a-half minutes of your day.

Just one thing before you press play. The music played over this great video is bad. And loud. So mute your device before you press play.
