Remember the name folks…

Senior Championship football can often prove to be a hostile environment for an up and coming 17-year old; if you haven’t your wits about you, a seasoned opposition player will take pleasure in ‘welcoming’ you to the fray with a shoulder that could knock you into the middle of next week.

If 17-year old James Lyons from Aughamore was intimated when facing Claremorris in the Mayo Senior Championship recently he did a good job of disguising it as he helped his side to victory with a goal that was audacious in its execution and right out of the top drawer.

Having managed to get a hold of a fairly difficult ball around 30 yards out while running away from goal, Lyons sold a dummy which was brought by three Claremorris players and then sold one more to the onrushing ‘keeper for good luck before crashing it to the roof of the net.

The goal was actually scored the weekend before last but having been sent into us by the lads at Love Media Ireland yesterday, we thought it well worthy of further exposure.

It’s probably come too late to earn James a call-up to James Horan’s side for Mayo’s All-Ireland quarter-final clash with Cork this weekend, but if he keeps on scoring goals like this, there’s a good chance he’ll feature in green and red in the future.

Class.
