Video: Actual footage of John Hayes successfully kicking a penalty and nominating Paul O’Connell to do likewise

And all for a great cause

Ronan O’Gara, eat your heart out.

No your eyes do not deceive you, footage has actually surfaced of former Munster, Ireland and Lions prop forward John Hayes kicking a penalty and doing a damn good job of it too.

The Bull got his boots on again in aid of a great cause, supporting the #PenaltyForAutism campaign, which is calling on sports fans in Ireland to take a penalty to raise funds for Irish Autism Action, which supports over 50,000 children and families with autism in Ireland.

Considering it was for charity, we’ll let the fact that Hayes took the penalty on a GAA pitch (with wider goalposts) slide for now and we’re also willing to overlook the fact that he was clearly taking his kick from the ladies’ tee.

The gauntlet has now been laid down to Paul O’Connell and Keith Earls and whatever about Keith, if we know Paul like we think we do, he’s not going to shirk the challenge.

If you want to support the campaign, all you have to do is take a penalty of any kind – from soccer to hockey – in any location and post it on a social media network of your choice.

Participants are then asked to text the word PENALTY to 50300 to donate €2 to Irish Autism Action and nominate two people to do the same.

100% of text costs go to Irish Autism Action across most network providers.
