Video: American tourist tries Gaelic Football for the first time, ends up nearly knocking herself out

Welcome to the GAA

And not one dirty belt was thrown either.

For as long as Gaelic Football and Hurling have been in existence, Irish people have something of an obsession with how our games are perceived by people in other countries.

Just watch the next visiting foreign dignitary struggle to deal with the hurley that’s just been shoved into his or her hand and you’ll know what we mean.

Maggie Doheny from California, a first cousin of JOE reader Marietta Doheny from Kilkenny, gave Gaelic Football a whirl for the first time at the Pure Skill complex in Galway and let’s just say it did not end well.

Don’t worry, Maggie was just fine afterwards; if she can survive that, she’d nearly be ready to take a shuddering shoulder from Francie Bellew next.

Hat-tip to Marietta Doheny for sending this our way
