As well as winning the Airtricity Dublin marathon today, Sean Hehir rewrote the record books after becoming the first Irishman to win the race since John Treacy in 1993. A fantastic achievement.
Clare man Hehir finished the race in a time of two hours, 18 minutes and 19 seconds, just over a minute ahead of second placed Joe Sweeney on a day when thousands of athletes – some professional, some amateur and some barely amateur – ran their hearts out around the capital city.
Despite fears about the weather, it held up for the first couple of hours, although it was pretty windy and conditions are expected to worsen as the day goes on.
Maria McCambridge made it an even better day as far as Irish athletes are concerned by coming home in first place in the women’s category and she looked pretty happy about it when being congratulated by her husband Gary afterwards.

We’d like to extend our hearty congratulations to Sean and to Maria and to all of the near 15,000 competitors who ran/are still running on a brilliant achievement.
