No football club has milked the corporate cash cow quite like Manchester United have in recent years and until a major splurge in the transfer market during the summer, many of their fans would have claimed that they were better at signing partnerships with Japanese tyre partners than they were at signing players.
The sheer raft of corporate partnerships has led to some bizarre advertisements in the last few years and the most recent features animated versions of players such as Robin van Persie and Angel di Maria hawking Nissin Cup noodles, which are apparently pretty big in Japan.
To answer the inevitable question, no, we have no idea of what’s going on either, no more than we had in one of our favourite ever bizarre Japanese ads…
