Video: Ardie Savea might be the fastest flanker in the world

Openside flankers may be one of the most important players in the modern game, but they don’t usually have the speed to score a try like this.

When you think of the great Number 7s in world rugby, like a Richie McCaw or a David Pocock or a Sean O’Brien, you think of power, ferocious tackling, ability to turn over the ball and line-out options.

What you don’t think of is the sort of pace that can blitz through an entire team. With that in mind we present to you 19-year-old Ardie Savea. The flanker is indeed the brother of All Black speedster Julian so we shouldn’t be surprised he is fleet of foot but for a flanker, this is ridiculous as he burns through the Northalnd defence while playing for Wellington in the ITM Cup.
