New Connacht coach Pat Lam will be hoping to get his players singing from the same hymn sheet this season, but judging by their recent trip to Mayo, singing will be the least of their worries.

The Connacht squad visited a number of clubs in Mayo to get involved in sessions with underage players and offer the chance to the youngsters to meet their heroes.

Of course GAA will be the dominant sport for the next few weeks as Mayo look to end years of pain when they take their place in the All-Ireland Final, and the Green and Red of Mayo is a song we will be hearing plenty of.

With Gavin Duffy,a  former Mayo minor himself and fellow Ballina native Dave Heffernan in the ranks, the lads decided to give a rendition of the song, ably assisted by Galway natives Ronan Loughney and Brian Murphy, who seemed only too happy to join in. Well it’s always a wise decision to humour the captain.

Clearly Pat Lam isn’t too familiar with the lyrics, but it is early days yet for the Kiwi.

And for the lads themselves, they might not be applying for the X-Factor anytime soon, but you can’t beat a good old crowd pleaser.
