Before you think about taking on a long cycle, you have to learn some skills. An Post’s Spokestars are here to tell you how.

The An Post Cycle Series is about to kick off next week, with the first event in Sligo this weekend. Over the summer, a total of five cycles will be held around the country, with the focus on getting people of all ages out on their bikes to enjoy the countryside while improving their fitness.

The cycles are designed for all ages, from amateurs to hardened cycling enthusiasts. Family routes at each location will be 10kms while short, medium and long distance routes of 60kms, 100kms and 160kms are also available for the more serious biker.

However, before embarking on a long cycle, you need to know how to prepare your body, your bike and how to cope with things like breakdowns and your fellow cyclists.

We’ll be bringing you a series of videos over the summer, and we start with one of the most important, bike handling. How to manoeuvre yourself and your bike, no matter what your level of experience, can always be improved. In this video, we pop along to one of Cycling Ireland’s Bike For Life classes to see what you can learn.
