Video: Damien Traille took a rather theatrical dive in the Top 14 at the weekend

Passionate rugby fans will say the sport is devoid of the type of theatrical carry-on that goes on in soccer and other sports, but this is pretty bad by Damien Traille.

Passionate rugby fans will say the sport is devoid of the type of theatrical carry-on that goes on in soccer and other sports, but this is pretty bad by Damien Traille.

The vastly experienced French international was lining out for Biarritz against Clermont in the Top 14 season opener at the weekend and, with Biarritz trailing in the dying stages, he fell to the ground in incredibly dramatic fashion after being merely brushed on the chest by Clermont’s Julien Bardy.

Despite the apparent obvious nature of Traille’s fall, referee Romain Poite fell for it – Munster fans will hardly be surprised – and gave Bardy a yellow card, even though his absence didn’t prevent Clermont from sealing a 22-18 victory in the end. Still, a bonus point will come as a small consolation for Traille and his Biarritz teammates.

Our own reaction mirrors of that of the commentator in the video above and we dare say that even Traille himself will be a bit embarrassed when he sees it again; you’re better than that Damien.
