Tyrone’s Conor Gormley was last night hit with a one-match ban that will rule him out of the All-Ireland semi-final with Mayo, but was the punishment deserved or harsh? Have a look at it again and make up your own mind.

The long-serving Tyrone defender was last night handed down a one-game ban by the Central Competitions Control Committee (the CCCCCCCCCCCC) as a result of his role in the melee that took place at half-time in the All-Ireland quarter-final victory over Monaghan earlier this month.

Martin Penrose was sent off after half-time for appearing to strike Mone on his way off the pitch but attention was also drawn towards Gormley, who raised his arms towards the Monaghan wing-back shortly after he joined a number of players from both sides in the shemozzle.

You can see the incident for yourself in the video below – the alleged punch occurs approximately eight seconds in – and make your own mind up about whether the CCCC made the right decision or not; there was plenty of debate on Twitter last night with cases being made for and against a man who has been a crucial part of Tyrone’s progress to the last four this season.

Tyrone are expected to appeal the decision in the hope that Gormley will be cleared to face Mayo on Sunday week, but should the punishment stick or should he be let off the hook?
