Winning an FAI Ford Cup Final is a huge deal in its own right, but the Drogheda United players won’t be lacking in motivation at the Aviva Stadium on Sunday in what will be Mick Cooke’s last game in charge.

Drogheda may have finished in a disappointing eighth place in the domestic league this season but it is only a year since they finished runners-up behind Sligo Rovers and their pedigree in cup competitions is certainly not in doubt.

Cooke has presided over Drogheda sides that won the League of Ireland Cup last season and finished as runners-up in that competition and the Setanta Cup this season, so the occasion certainly won’t get to his players on Sunday.

Earlier this week, we headed up to Drogheda to catch up with Cooke himself and players Gavin Brennan and Declan O’Brien to gauge the mood ahead of the big game, their thoughts on the opposition and the desire to give the manager a fitting send off on the biggest stage this weekend.
